Let's Talk Etiquette

It is the time of year for buyers to hit the market in search of a home. Purchasing a home is an exciting time; who doesn't love looking at homes? However, there are a few things buyers should take into consideration when viewing someones home, especially with social media being such a prominent piece of our lives these days!

It is expect buyers are going to "inspect" the home to see if it will suit their needs and sellers should be prepared for this. With this being said, buyers should respect the privacy of the home owners as well.

For instance, everyone is worried about closet space; therefore, it can be expected the buyer will take a peak into each of the closets. What you should not do as buyer is sift through the sellers belongs while checking out the space. Visually looking at the area should be enough for you to decipher if it will take care of your needs. The same goes for cabinets; peer inside to imagine your belongings there, but it is poor etiquette to go snooping through their food and medications.

Where social media comes into play is posting what homes buyers viewed on facebook, instagram, twitter, etc. Buyers should feel free to take as many photos as they need to make a decision. You may need to look back at the photos later to remember specifics on the property. And if you think you may have found "the one," it is many peoples first instinct to post photos onto one or many social media sites. Keep in mind this home still belongs to someone else, and in many cases is still occupied by those owners or still have many of their belongings inside. The seller may not want their personal items displayed for the world to see, or for anyone to know the home is vacant, for safety reasons; especially if you have posted the address as well. So, if you feel the need to post photos for your friends and family to view, consider doing so in either a private message to those who truly care about this big event in your life or make sure the pictures do not show anything with value.

Stay tuned and keep Scouting it out with Me! and Scout, because she is just so darn cute...
