Scouting Out the Crystal Coast

Scout would like to discuss a few things she loves about living on the Crystal Coast. You may not know much about her; you see, we rescued Scout at the age of One. She was an abused dog and was an owner surrender to the Southeast German Shepherd Rescue and was fostered in Memphis, TN. The Rescue was nice enough to meet us half way with her; however, that still means we drove a total of 14 hours to get this dog! She is well worth it though (my husband wasn't so sure for the first few weeks). Anyway, Scout has learned to love to the coast of NC. She loves the beach and especially getting there by boat! She has also come to love a few other great things about our Crystal Coast including the food, the fun, and of course its location!

Lets start with some of the food and drink joints. Scout loves to come along or have left overs at some of our favorite places and you may be surprised to find how many are dog friendly (if you're sitting outside of course!).

Bake Bottle and Brew in Downtown Swansboro is known for, well its Brews! The building is situated on the Intra Coastal Waterway; the expansive deck has amazing views of the ICW, the Swansboro Bridges, and the boats coming in to dock or travel through. Scout will sometimes sit below deck with us under the covered patio (where dogs can sometimes be found) and enjoy the scenery or some live music with her people.

The Ice House, also located in Downtown Swansboro is known for its iconic views of the water and its fresh, local seafood. Scout has not accompanied us here before, but other dogs have been know to hangout with their tongues out with their owners on the front deck. However, she does love when we bring home some left over fish, sweet potato fries or, in my opinion, the best wings in town!

If you are looking for a quick bite on Emerald Isle then look no further than The Village Market. With great breakfast, sandwiches, soups and salads this place is a must! The outside area is a great spot to sit with your furry friend if you are going to or coming from the beach (Scout prefers sitting under the tables).

When it comes to fun, the Crystal Coast has much to offer. Of course, there is always the beach! Whether you are island hopping in a boat or lounging by the ocean, there is no better place to be. You can also consider renting a kayak or paddle board to explore the wetlands or just paddle to your hearts content. There is also Shackleford Banks where the wild horses can be viewed and Cape Lookout National Seashore to view the lighthouse. These beautiful islands will keep your little explores occupied all day long. And for you history Buffs don't forget to visit Forte Macon, a civil war base with a unique and intricate history!

These are just a few things to do while visiting the Crystal Coast. I will dive into more detail on individual places in future posts. Continue to read along and keep Scouting it out with Me!
