Grow Your Garden Greener

I thought it happened this year, I thought I had finally established my green thumb; sadly this is not the case, at least not in this unbearable heat (I will retract that statement come winter time). I have tried everything. I have watered, and watered, and watered. I have used miracle grow (which I once put in my shoes in hopes of growing taller as child, sadly that did not work). I tried bone-meal, whatever that is, but is suppose to be good for plants. And I even resorted to a sprinkler which I run. Still, my flowers and flowery shrubs are frying in this heat.
So for those of you who are having the same troubles I am, we are going to go over a few ways to prevent this from happening. Personally, I believe don't put full sun on the tag if they really cannot take FULL SUN! However, that is just my point of view.
PLANTS LIKE TO EAT TOO
Apply fertilizer. Fertilizer gives plants nutrients. A healthy plant is able to fight off disease and will grow larger and stay healthy! Don't over fertilize though, or it will have the opposite effect; remember too much of a good thing can be a bad thing
PRUNE DAMAGED LIMBS
Or in my case, prune the plant down to the nub! Pruning apparently helps prevent disease as well in plants. Use tools to make clean cuts instead of pealing back the dead edges.
DON'T CROWD YOUR PLANTS
I have made this mistake in the past, not so much in a garden, but in pots. Roots grow larger than you may imagine. If you have a small space you are planting in don't try to jam in as many
as you can. In order to have those beautiful flowers or large plump tomatoes, give them room to GROW!
WATER
Most plants are made up of over 90% water believe it or not (you learn something new everyday right?). Hydration is important, especially on those hot days. However, watering plants in the morning when less evaporation is occurring is the best time so they are able to absorb more of it.
Hopefully these 4 simple tips will help those of us who struggle at least keep our plants alive; that is what I am striving for at this point! Maybe next year I will be better prepared and can keep it green and colorful year round, but my purple power plants and ever greens are hanging in strong!
