FALL into Autumn

It's officially here, the season so many have been waiting for...Fall. I enjoy the season for the crisp air and the football; others enjoy it for pumpkin spice coffee, bread, cupcakes, cookies, Oreo's, you name it they have tried to pumpkin spice it. Fall is the time when we begin the decorating sprees. Lets face it, once we turn our calendars to the month of September it is a free for all. I even witnessed a few stores over the weekend with Christmas decorations on the isles (pitiful!).
Decorating doesn't have to be over the top or expensive in order to have the tasteful, elegant look most are looking for. I often feel I need more to obtain the look I am after when in reality it can be as simple as stopping at your local farmers market. For instance, a great look for the front of your home could be either stacking pumpkins in a variety of sizes or lining your steps with Mums. Add a little pop with an in-season wreath and a few strings of leaves or corn stalks.

Some of my favorite inside items for fall decor include mason jars, mini pumpkins, candles, and flower arrangements (these can be either fresh or fake). All are simple, but go together perfectly. Candles don't need to be fancy. I use anything from cheap pillars in an array of sizes to create depth to the oh so good smelling Yankee Candles. These are dispersed throughout the house in clumps here and there and are paired with some different sized jars full of fall flowers. My one large item is my table center piece which consists of 2 glass cylinder pillars, pumpkins, and a large jar with flowers. Each pillar contains a candle and a mix of pine-cones and other fall items (that come in a bag from Hobbylobby) filling the pillar to the top. All of this is contained in a reclaimed wood piece my cat often enjoys sitting in and knocking over all the above mentioned items.

All in all, I keep it simple; I have gone the crazy route in the past and it has turned into a jumbled mess with none of the items pairing well together. Keeping your list to 3-5 different types of items helps keep the continuity throughout and you will be happier with your design. Stay tuned for more fall fun!
