Cool Activities in the Summer Heat

It has been a little on the warm side here on the Crystal Coast, verging on the side of miserable the past few days. But when the sun is out and the day is beautiful who wants to waste the day sitting inside? That certainly is not my style and it is not Scouts either! This is a post on suggestions on activities to do that will also keep you cool.

Enjoy a day in your own town or a neighboring town; walk around, see the sites, do some window shopping (or actual shopping), and have lunch and a drink (or 3). Go to a place where there is covered outdoor seating and you can enjoy any type of scenery and the company of the people you are with. You will be surprised at how fast the time passes and how a drink will cool you down on a hot summer day!

Be adventurous and go kayaking or paddle boarding if that is an option in your area. Not only is this great exercise, you have the opportunity to go for a dip if you get too warm! Enjoy the day exploring areas you have not seen before. If this does not work for you, go biking. The breeze from your pace should keep you slightly cooler than walking in the heat.

Wash your car. This may seem like a chore, but how often do you wash your car and not get misted by the hose? Or sprayed by your significant other? You're essentially killing two birds with one stone; Getting a nice clean car and cooling down at the same time.

Go to the beach! There is no better way to cool down, in my opinion, then getting some sand between your toes and some salt in your hair! Sit back, soak up the sun, get a tan and jump in the water to cool down.

Hike a trail, a wooded trail that is. If you live in AZ this may not be the best activity to do since you will be in the blazing sun! My friend, Stephanie, has been sending me Snap Chats of the 117 degree heat there (no Buenos).

Get thrifty. There is no shame in having a little fun and buying a cheap kiddie pool. Fill that baby up with some ice and maybe let your dog cool down with you. Throw on some sunglasses, elevate your feet on a floaty and let the day pass on by.

Take a boat tour or go for a boat ride. The breeze will cool you down and you will be sure to see some new sights as well. It is always fun to learn a little more about where you live.

Not to state the obvious, but going to a swimming pool is always a great option as well! Who doesn't want to splash along in the pool, dive in, do flips, play Marco Polo, or in my case get body slammed (the last one is not my favorite option). It is a great way to have fun in the sun and stay cool at the same time.

Make homemade ice pops or ice cream. A cool treat in the heat will always be appreciated!

There are many ways to stay active when it is excruciating warm outside, sometime you just need to use your noggin. Of course, I could go through many more options, but now it's your turn to come up with a few ideas of your own. And remember to keep Scouting it out with Me!
